Here Is Why You Might Be Burned Out

 In Tips on Childcare

With today’s competitive day and age (as well as the economy), parents find themselves struggling to meet up with society’s expectations. After all, who doesn’t want a happy family, financial stability, fun memories and enough time to relax?

However, the reality is not all that happy. Sometimes too much is expected with too little effort, and as a result, parents are left with their batteries drained. While this is a normal phenomenon, it is still something to battle.

Before you can choose your battles, you need to understand yourself – why are you burned out? What made you feel this way? Are you even that burned out, or just a little bit?

If you’re confused and looking for a solution, then you have come to the right place. Here is why you just might be burned out:

You Noticed A Shift In Your Child’s Behavior
When children enter their toddler years and beyond, they tend to undergo a series of behavioral changes; they may go from being obedient to arguing or throwing tantrums at every single thing. This change in attitude is something no parent is ever prepared for, but every parent expects at one point or another. As a result, parents may feel defeated when they realize they can’t seem to control their little angel anymore. Defeat leads to demoralization – and eventually, burnout.

Your “Me” Times Are Getting Cut Down

It is natural for parents to enjoy some alone time, after being done with the day’s work. However, there may be times when you have to stay up all night just to care for your sick child. Sometimes, your day-job may call you in for another few hours’ worth of work. In any case, you may get so busy daily that your alone-times may get reduced from three hours every day to just half an hour every week! That will just cause you to feel more drained, till you eventually feel completely spent.

You May Try Too Much In Too Little Time

If you’re a workaholic, or simply love being task-oriented, then you might have a habit of doing multiple tasks in a given amount of time. While this may be you being efficient, it won’t be so when your day’s tasks keep on increasing. You may even try so hard to cram every single task you have within 24 hours, that you just turn into a walking-talking robot! That just causes you to drain your energy reserves faster, and eventually feel burned out.

You May Think You’re Not Good Enough

This is something every parent has felt at one point or another – do I show my children I care? Do I make them happy? What if I’m not parenting the right way? What if I’m not the right kind of caretaker at all?

Parents should know that this is simply the critical voice inside your head talking. Such doubts often cloud our minds so much, to the point where we think we are inadequate at caring for our children, and so feel burned out and pressured to do even the bare minimum. In such cases, it always helps to talk to a friend or another parent who is feeling something similar, so that you can lift yourself. If it persists, seeking a therapist also helps.
