The children at Oakfield are divided into age appropriate class bubbles.

Baby Unit (45 Days to confident walker)

Our Baby unit is a safe, clean and secure room for our youngest children to explore. The room is designed to encourage babies to move freely and it is equipped with a variety of natural resources and sensory materials.

Our Baby Programme is planned holistically to develop the important Prime Areas of Learning and includes, Tummy Time, Messy Play, Singing, Story Time, Cuddle Time, and an Individual Care Plan

The Baby Unit is supervised by a qualified Midwife and Paediatric Nurse with a very high adult: child ratio (at least one member of staff to every three babies). The room is quiet, secure and not accessed by anyone except the caregivers and permitted adults.

Oakfield strives for each and every child to enjoy the time they spend with us and we encourage learning through play.  Our practitioners offer babies love and care to the highest degree.

Babies also participate in group activities throughout the day to introduce structure and focus, including story times, music and movement and group art activities.

Toddler Class (15 months – 24 months)

Our Rising Two’s Class has a maximum of 12 children with a dedicated, EYFS qualified teacher, a qualified Teaching Assistant and a Nanny.

The room is spacious yet cosy, designed and equipped to develop the important Prime Areas of Learning including messy play, blocks and construction, painting and creative play, Story Time, role play corner, puzzles and more. Gardening and cooking are worked into the programme as well as self – help skills, music and gym.

Oakfield strives for each and every child to enjoy the time they spend with us and we encourage learning through play.  The indoor climbing frame and slide as well as the soft play area supports children’s gross motor skills while the sleeping room is a perfect place for them to get their peaceful rest.

Meal times are a sociable occasion with the children beginning to sit together and being encouraged to eat independently. This builds their hand and eye co-ordination, as well as their independence.

Our dedicated Toddler Sleep Room is the perfect place for tired little ones to have a peaceful rest after their busy morning.

Pre-Foundation Class (2 years to 3 years)

Our Pre – Foundation Class welcomes children from 2 – 3 years.

At age 2+ most children of this age respond well to routine as it enables them to feel secure and be confident and aware of the world around them. Therefore it is here we begin the preparation for later transition into FS1, with structured meal times, potty training and self – help skills.

Here the EYFS programme has more focus on all 7 areas of learning: Children are invited to learn and play with a wide range of resources and activities including, Early literacy such as creating stories and mark making, music and movement, creative activities, messy play, construction, role play, tabletop activities and much more.

For those who do not need to nap during the day, a quiet area is provided for quiet activities or storytelling.

One of the main aims for the Pre – Foundation age range is developing Personal, Social and Emotional skills (PSED), i.e. learning to take turns and share toys, communicating and establishing relationships with peers and adults. This is achieved by learning through play and informed planning through observation.

Foundation Class- 1 (3 years to 4 years)

In the Foundation 1 class, more emphasis is placed on ‘school readiness’… We introduce a more structured routine and a slightly more formal way of learning, which takes the children on their continual journey towards FS2 or their first year at school. Our focus, however, is not to move away from making learning fun through play. The children have a big influence on class activities throughout the day through choosing and evaluating what they do.

Foundation Class- 2 (4 years to 5 years)

Children within this stage are prepared for the transition into Year 1/ KG2. The emphasis remains on active learning whilst remaining mindful of the need to prepare children for the more formal school environment of Year 1/ KG2.
