Here’s to a Fun-Filled, Spooky Halloween!

 In Events, Games

Halloween is almost upon us, you can almost feel it in the air. Carved-out pumpkins, scary movies, and creepy costumes – they’re all just some of the many reasons why it’s such an iconic day of the entire year.

As much as any adult likes Halloween, so do children – but they wouldn’t want to be scared out of their wits for the sake of some holiday!

So we have compiled a list of fun-filled, yet spooky activities you and your toddler can do during Halloween – so that neither of you miss out on all the fun:

Some paint, glue – and some creativity!

Something that every child likes is creating something – paints, pencils, crayons, anything works. Make the most of this innate ability with the following artistic activities:

  • Let your toddlers pour different paints over pumpkins and create their own works of abstract art. They can even use sponges, or their own hands to create some funny, interesting patterns all over.
  • Make Halloween prints with just a potato! Cut a potato in half, and engrave your choice of design into its inside. Then, press it into some paint, print it on some paper, and voilà – a masterpiece!
  • Who said you could only paint on plain paper? Grab some paper plates, and unleash your magic. Paint them orange, and give it black eyes and a mouth to resemble a carved pumpkin – or cut it’s top half, colour its face green, and stick on some black hair to get your own Frankenstein friend.

Time to get crafty

Paints come and go, but crafts of your own stay forever! Check out some of these unique arts and crafting ideas you and your toddler can do together to make some memories:

  • Take some white paper, and cut it in the shape of a ghost. Stick white cotton balls all over – and you’ve got yourself a spooky ghost! You could take it a step further by letting your child create their own little monster with some colorful cotton balls stuck on all kinds of paper.
  • Turn your pumpkins into monsters! Stick on googly eyes, pipe cleaners, colourful feathers and hair- the scarier, the better! You and your child could make them individually, and then see each others’ creations in the end as a little contest of “who gets scared the most?”
  • What’s better than a simple spider made on paper? Fine motor spiders, of course! Check this tutorial, and make some funky looking creepy-crawlies with your child.

Fun sensory activities

These kinds of activities are known to be popular among toddlers and preschoolers, simply because of how easy they are to use. In fact, they actually help youngsters’ mental and creative capacity increase – since there are no rules on how to play, they can do whatever they want. Here are some cool Halloween-inspired sensory activities you can let your child thrive in:

  • Grab a tray and fill it with shaving cream. Throw in some food colouring, and watch the creepy colours seep through. After that, let your toddler take the reins – let them enjoy all the slime and gooey fun!
  • The Halloween Sensory Soup is another hit among children. All you need to do is fill a plastic container with black beans, and scatter different Halloween props everywhere – little plastic pumpkins, spiders, even little ghost erasers. Place some scoops and bowls inside as well, and watch your child dive into some open-ended, creepy play.

You can mix and match the above mentioned sensory activities as much as you want – throw in some pom-poms, feathers, googly eyes, and even glitter if you want. You and your toddler are in charge this Halloween.
